OANDCon24: Chronic Disease Management in the Perinatal Period with Dr. Laura Jasmin, ND & Dr. Carly King, ND

Course Description:

Chronic disease management during the perinatal period is critical to long-term health and wellness. Gestational Diabetes is the number one medical complication in pregnancy, and affects 15% of pregnancies worldwide, or 18 million births annually. People who are diagnosed with gestational diabetes in their pregnancy have a 10-fold higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes in the future and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. The primary treatments for GDM are lifestyle interventions including nutrition and exercise. This session will provide current research on how to implement lifestyle change in this population, including motivational interviewing techniques. Breakout sessions will include small group discussions to develop electronic medical record (EMR) content for patient therapeutic plans to be implemented in practice immediately.
