Course Description:
PCOS is a multifaceted and chronic condition. With the healthcare system hyper-focused on BMI and patients feeling overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information online, NDs play a unique role in helping patients navigate their PCOS compassionately and holistically.
This discussion will take you through PCOS basics as well as the nuances that facilitate shared decision-making with our patients. Special consideration will be given to comorbidities, the role of (epi)genetics and developmental experiences to help patients understand that they didn’t “cause their PCOS”, physical manifestations that affect patients in the context of a world that is constantly telling us to shrink ourselves, and supporting patients in their self-advocacy efforts. We’ll also cover naturopathic strategies as well as common conventional treatment options. Last but not least, together, we’ll support each other in sharing language we (can) use in our practices to help ourselves and patients move through long-term and dynamic conditions like PCOS.
