Course Description:
This live session will provide an up-to-date review of when and how omega-3 fatty acids can be used to support cardiovascular health. Our understanding of treatment and safety parameters have changed over the years; range of indication use has been clarified as narrower than once thought, while potential side effect profile has grown to include atrial fibrillation and hyperlipidemia.
Omega-3 supplementation continues to be widespread, popular with both consumers and practitioners for various reasons. It behooves naturopathic doctors, respected as leaders in the field, to be comfortable with the most recent knowledge of the efficacy and safety of this treatment as it relates to heart health, whether used directly or adjunctively.
We will review current evidence outlining omega-3 use for various cardiovascular conditions as well as clarify the potential pitfalls to be aware of while prescribing or counselling patients on self-prescribed use.
