Course Description:
Pandemics invariably exhibit a number of waves of activity before resolving. The “final wave” includes both virally-related and non-viral consequences of infection that can continue to burden individual health profoundly. Studies reveal that up to 1 in 3 adults infected with COVID develop lasting symptoms, termed “long-haulers” syndrome. COVID long-haulers exhibit both typical post-viral symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, poor concentration and muscle pain, along with symptoms more specific to this virus, such as neuropathy, headaches and anxiety. In addition, individuals also face mental health challenges, including impaired sleep, depression and increased addictive behaviour. These latter conditions are often overlooked yet can be far more long-term damaging.
