Course Description:

Insulin resistance is when the cells in your muscles, body fat and liver start ignoring insulin’s signal to transport glucose from the bloodstream intracellularly. We know that a poor diet, smoking and lack of exercise greatly contribute to this but why is it that some people seem to do everything right, and end up with unstable blood sugars or even worse type 11 diabetes? And why doesn’t eating well and exercising simply reverse this? The largest contributing factors have been shown to be stress, inflammation, lack of sleep, the wrong kind of exercise and how our individual body responds to food rather than the foods themselves. All of these variables are dictated by our genes. In this lecture we will identify all key SNPs involved in several root causes of insulin resistance, how to prioritize their treatment and prevent and reverse disease.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn to connection between high cortisol, high inflammation, lack of sleep and insulin resistance, and how this is more powerful than what we eat.
  • Learn how balancing leptin, adiponectin and ghrelin can reverse insulin resistance more so than reducing carbohydrates and increasing protein.
  • Learn how doing the wrong kind of exercise can increase insulin resistance.
  • Learn which SNPs are involved in the stress response, inflammation, sleep and our metabolic hormones and how to treat each of them.
  • Comparative integrative genetic case studies illustrating the value of genetics at identifying the root causes of insulin resistance and how to treat those cases using natural supplementation, diet, exercise and lifestyle.
