Course Description:

Insulin resistance is a silent epidemic affecting the health and resilience of the majority of our patients. Recent world events have brought into question what the true definition of health is, and we are realizing the impact of metabolic and inflammatory dysfunction on our immunological capacity and vulnerability. More than ever patients are coming in hoping to gather data about their health biometrics and without having a deep understanding of the foundational aspects of health, glucose and insulin regulation, inflammation, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial function, NDs are not well positioned to provide patients with the information they desire. In this presentation, we will address not only what testing must be completed in order to help your patients identify their vulnerabilities, but we will also cover how to use that data to explain to patients why their fatigue, hormonal dysfunction, inflammatory symptoms and weight loss resistance are all connected.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the how chronic inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction can originate with insulin resistance.
  2. Know how to properly test for and identify the various types of insulin resistance and get clues as to how significantly it is impacting their health.
  3. Understand how to help patients break out of the loop weight loss resistance, fatigue and inflammation.
  4. Get the tools you need to break the cycle of insulin resistance, inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction in your difficult cases. Hint – it is about much more than dietary change!

This session is approved for  1.5 Category A General credits with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO).  After completing the material, you will automatically receive your CE certificate.
