Course Description:

As experts in the field of Lifestyle medicine and with a keen focus on prevention Naturopathic
Doctors are poised to be leaders in the reversal of the metabolic syndrome epidemic. Reversing
insulin resistance through Naturopathic Medicine can help to add quality years of life to an aging,
unwell population. Through the presentation of a holistic approach that includes key target
management, an advanced glucose monitoring style, a non-invasive supplemental and herbal
prescription protocol and an evidence-based, sustainable exercise and nutrition routine this session
set clinicians up for success in difficult cases of metabolic derangement. Using recent research,
including placebo-controlled trials, clinical experience as well as case-studies Dr. Duizer provides his
framework for successful insulin resistance reversal. This protocol brings studied practices to
clinicians for immediate usage including HOMA-IR and relative fat mass analysis, an easy-toimplement CGM protocol, progressive overload training and a low carb diet/fasting protocol combo
to support safe, long-term patient success

Learning Objectives:

  1. Basics of assessment and case management for insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and type 2
diabetes including the use of laboratory work including: HbA1C, FastingInsulin & HOMA-IR, TG:HDL
    Ratio, hsCRP, etc.
    2. Clinical utility and protocol details for successful Flash Glucose Monitoring and Continuous Glucose
Monitoring for the purpose of patient education and insulin resistance reversal.
    3. Successful prescribing for the aging insulin resistant patient - Nutrient, herb and prescription
medication usage. Which one, how much and why (includes safety considerations, follow up
    requirements and tracking suggestions)?
    4. Tissue specific insulin resistance details and facilitating body composition change in clinical practice -
Includes protocols for High Intensity Interval Training for VO2Maxenhancement, Steady State
Conditioning at fat-max for fat loss and Progressive Overload for muscle hypertrophy and a
    mitochondrial density increase.
    5. Evidence based nutrition discussion reviewing best practices, pros and cons and case studies for the
low carbohydrate diet, ketogenic diet, time-restricted feeding, intermittent fasting, fasting
    mimicking diet and calorie management-only

This session is approved for  1.25 Category A  and 0.25 Pharmacology credits with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO).  After completing the material, you will automatically receive your CE certificate.
