Course Description:

Sleep is the foundation of health, and all our patients sleep! Yet, the incidence of sleep disturbances, disorders and insomnia have increased significantly in recent years. Sleep maintenance insomnia is a persistent challenge encountered by both patients and clinicians. This session will review 4 major contributing factors and practical clinical strategies for solving sleep maintenance insomnia.

Learning Objectives:

  1. How to screen for and assess sleep disturbances in clinical practice, including differentiating the different types of insomnia.
  2. Review the major contributing factors to sleep maintenance insomnia, including how to assess and address them in clinical practice.
  3. Review the existing evidence for standard of care for insomnia and sleep disturbances (CBT-I and sedative/hypnotics).
  4. Review the existing evidence for hormone replacement therapy to address sleep disturbances in the Peri-and post-menopausal period.
  5. Review the evidence for using integrative care in the management of sleep disturbances and insomnia.

This session is approved for 1.5 Category A CE Credits with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO).  After completing the material, you will automatically receive your CE certificate.
